One of the biggest mistakes I see is beginners giving their novels those arty-sounding titles - The Alchemy of Desire, The Solitude of Prime Numbers - but for the contents to fail to live up to the name. Gosh, I thought, its that same thin fellow who used to work in my office. The language was lucid and the book, brilliantly written. Tarun Tejpal's The Alchemy of Desire had me salivating for more. And as Jabberwock It gets blatantly crass when the novel takes a sharp right and talks about Catherine (white, American, colonial). I am glad that I discovered the book.
